Made in Germany - since 1863

Company

August Vormann GmbH & Co. KG

More than 150 years

for industry, commerce and consumers

August VORMANN employs roughly 190 associates at its 3 facilities, about half of whom are employed in the Ennepetal plants (administration, warehouse and logistics), and the other half in Elsterwerda (production plant). The family-owned company, now managed by its owners in the 5th generation, was founded in 1863 by Ludwig VORMANN and can thus look back on a tradition of more than 150 years. Over the years, the hinge manufacturer from the days of rapid industrial expansion in the 19th century has developed into an international player offering a wide range of different products for both DIY and professional customers today.

In manufacturing, VORMANN relies on the “Made in Germany” quality seal. With the acquisition of the building approval as well as CE labelling for its statically relevant wood connectors and support shoes, VORMANN also offers distributors and users more transparency regarding product safety and quality standards.

The quality management system according to EN ISO 9001:2015, which was already established a number of years ago and includes regular audits and inspections, provides an additional warranty that our customers receive the quality they have come to expect. Apart from the production and distribution of standard product ranges in the area of connection elements (such as hinges, fittings, wood connectors, brackets, connectors and holders), bracket and shelf systems, chains, ropes and accessories, load securing equipment, as well as a handrail and banister system, we also offer the development and production of customised products from drawings if desired by our customers.

Our own sales subsidiary in South Africa and close cooperation agreements with long-standing partner companies, for example in Austria, Switzerland, the Benelux countries, Russia, Latvia and Romania, underline VORMANN’s international orientation, which is also reflected by its website that is available in 5 different languages.

1863

Tradition

Ludwig VORMANN, born in 1823, establishes a small forge in an annexe built next to his inn at the age of 40, which grows into a small factory. Shortly before his death in 1888, he transfers the business to his son August, the company’s later name giver, including the 10 employees at that time.

After the end of World War I, the company starts to produce tin-plated, soldered curtain rings. This proves to be a forward-looking move, since it lays the foundation for the company’s growth and later expansion.

Quality

Quality management means planning, steering, monitoring and improving processes and procedures with the aim of reaching and maintaining high standards in product quality. Customers’ requirements are constantly becoming more and more stringent, and the increasing harmonisation of the market, together with comparability via the Internet, make it harder and harder for companies to acquire and retain customers.
This is why VORMANN already installed a quality management system in its organisation many years ago, audited by TÜV NORD.

POS (Point of Sale)

VORMANN makes a special point of creating individual concepts for its customers to canvass their own customers successfully at the POS. In agreement with one of our field representatives, the most suitable range for your market and for your customer base is determined.

Our service department then prepares inventory placement concepts and sees to it that our in-house presentation team arranges the POS merchandise display promptly.

Facilities

Ennepetal

Plant I Head Office

Everything comes together at our facility in Ennepetal, Plant I (administration). Here are the offices of our sales and service staff and all other administrative personnel who take care of our customers’ concerns and see to it, for example, that orders are delivered to our customers as far as possible on the desired date.

Elsterwerda

Production and powder coating

In our in-house engineering department and tool making shop at the Elsterwerda plant, we develop and service the tooling we need to make our products. Apart from our standard products, we also offer, for example, customised products developed from drawings and give them the necessary finish, where possible in our own powder coating plant.

Ennepetal

Plant II logistics centre

We keep our standard products in stock in our logistics centre with an integrated, completely barcode-controlled warehouse management system. Here the goods are packaged to customers’ specifications, labelled and then sent out to our customers.

In George/Südafrika gründet Vormann 1999 die erste Vertriebsniederlassung im Ausland.

George/South Africa

Sales subsidiary

From our facility in George, we supply the South African market and customers in Namibia and Botswana. Expert support for our customers is guaranteed by a network of agencies covering all provinces.  Our medium- to long-term goal: expansion of exports from South Africa to other Southern African countries.
